4. Enjoy CS:GO for less than what your friends paidThe new ColdGame's CS:GO team is composed of Call of Duty 4 players that had solid work on the European scene before the game more or less died out. They managed to win several online tournaments before the end of their way on CoD 4.Playing a competitive online game means being subjected to a certain amount of unsolicited criticism. I think you receive a bit more of it in CS:GO, though, because your dead teammates form a kind of peanut gallery who can talk to you from beyond the grave. Being the last one alive as four other players hover over your digital shoulder is a quintessential CS experience.I Googled “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive cheats,” and quickly ended up at a user-friendly cheat provider. Based on the size of its community and traffic, it's one of the biggest. I'm going to call it Ultra Cheats, a fake name, to protect the anonymity of the sources I talked to. Those sources, like Zero, have also had their online handles altered. Ultra Cheats didn't accept credit (other sites did), so I used PayPal to buy a one-month subscription for CS:GO cheats for $10.95. This gave me access to the site's VIP forums where I could talk to other members, administrators, cheat coders, and download Ultra Cheats' cheat loader, which checks in with its DRM server. It also gave me access to around-the-clock technical and customer support via TeamSpeak.

Valve is a juggernaut in gaming thanks to Steam, the dominant online marketplace for PC games, and we’ve been excited to see the result of its hardware efforts since we first caught wind of its mythical PC console back in 2012. When we eventually sat down with CEO Gabe Newell, he outlined an exciting vision for the future: a gaming PC with all of Steam’s killer features that would be as convenient and comfortable to use on the couch as a console.Traditional sports betting is a widespread industry and does generate a lot of revenue; I think eSports betting will easily fit right in. I don’t think the eSports betting industry particularly needs the big players in traditional sports betting to fit in, but we’ve highlighted some areas where they can really create a splash within eSports and fill potential gaps in the market. We’ve seen some big players such as William Hill come in to eSports but the betting company hasn’t made any visible investment and is lacking in the quality of bets on matches they feature on the website in my opinion.

Over a decade later, people are still playing that game. Not just playing – it has evolved with time to become one of the most dominant eSports titles on the market today. Even though “Counter-Strike” has existed a long time, at UCLA this is the first year the game has had an official club standing on campus. Similar to the “Defense of the Ancients,” or “DotA,” group, the “Counter-Strike” club on campus is in its first year as an organization, fielding its own successful Collegiate StarLeague team.Kids shouldn’t be allowed to bet this easily, regardless of whether it happens to skirt the laws so gracefully. Even if they don’t operate in the US, these sites should find ways to determine the age, so they can ban kids until they are the legal age.

CS: GO wouldn't experience a very successful launch. Priced at $14.99 it sold more than a million units within one week, but wasn't able to retain a high activity average among its playerbase. Within a couple months most players would transition to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Halo 4, or even return to CS 1.6 or Battlefield 3 for their shooter fix, resulting in a sub-50,000 concurrent player count for what Valve hoped would be its premier FPS for the next decade. It was only three weeks ago when Peter Souvlis, one of the more veteran players in the Australian CS:GO scene, was streaming and playing matchmaking games with viewers. Souvlis has been doing this for a fair while, so it’s wasn’t too unusual for him to get messaged by strangers. The team remains unchanged, other than adding a dedicated coach into their roster. It's a deal that's been in the works for some time and seemed the best option for all involved, despite multiple offers. They say that this level of control is necessary to avoid "worries over on-time salary payouts, dodgy contracts, exhausting streaming demands and gear problems."Reading between the lines, it's rather easy to see how unamiacable the split from TSM must have been to result in such measures. Securing investment in new companies is not easy, even with the massive and continued growth of eSports. These folks they're dealing with might be passionate fans, but they're business people first and foremost, and they'll want to see a return on what they put in. Part of the reason it took so long for eSports to get off the ground is that isn't simple in this sector.Valve say they want to make the new maps "as fun and balanced as possible". To that effect, rather than release them to the general public, they're being restricted to community servers and offline play, as well as trialled for a limited through official matchmaking via Operation: Bravo.

CS: GO remains one of the top games in the world, and it all began with what seemed to be a minor addition. This just goes to show that sometimes the most complex problems have the most simple solutions. When people talk about PC gaming today, they’re talking about Steam. With over 125 million registered users, Steam is by far the biggest gaming community and storefront in the PC gaming world. eSports games like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are played exclusively through Steam for prizes worth millions of dollars. The rest of the money goes to “the ownership entity,” which Slayer and Prophet refused to talk about in any way. All they would say is that the entity controls the PayPal account I paid (and hence all Ultra Cheats' money) and that only Slayer knows anything about it. Anything between this ownership entity and the rest of Ultra Cheats goes through him. For all I know, this ownership entity doesn't even exist and Slayer and Prophet were the actual owners. It seems that one competitive circuit has already taken a stand against cheating and has added a very unusual and novel way in which to combat the rising cheating problem that’s proliferated in the CSGO professional arena.Besides the returning map, the update for CS:GO makes some key changes to the controversial CZ75-Auto pistol, which was introduced earlier this year and made a big splash due to its overpowered nature. As recently as a year or two ago, it was easy to pick a free antivirus package. Almost any of a half dozen free virus scanners did an acceptable job, and largely stayed out of the way of the OS when configured properly. Times change, however.

Correction - 30/06: A previous version of this article said that OPSkins co-founder Artur Minacov dropped out of college to focus on his business. Rather, Minacov dropped out to pursue a previous business that was not OPSkins. As Counter-Strike: Global Offensive updates go, the latest adding much nicer hands isn't the largest. It hit yesterday, updating from lower poly and less detailed models to nice fancy new ones with sexy knobbly bits on the gloves. Very fancy. The announcement post also confirmed that CS:GO was hitting 10 million unique users a month currently, a tremendous figure if you consider the fact that CSGO ain't free (though has been very cheap several times). Meanwhile on the pro scene, orphaned Team Question Mark, previously of Team Solo-Mid before an unamicable split late last year, have signed with a new sponsor.Another CES came and went, and with Valve continuing its hold on production, vendors began shipping their “Steam Machines” under independent branding. Hardware manufacturers had too many resources tied-up in production to match Valve’s more calculated design pace, and were forced to launch aging, proprietary platforms as HTPCs. The systems, of course, could still be a “Steam Machine” – they just wouldn’t be branded as such, would not include the controller, and the user would manually install SteamOS.Cooler Master, on the other hand, has taken a classic approach with the Quick Fire XTi, opting for a heavy duty chassis with no logos or detailing. If not for LED backlighting, the Cooler Master could pass for an office keyboard.
